Payment for human eggs

In 2010-11 HGA collaborated with a feminist campaign group, No2Eggsploitation to oppose HFEA plans to pay women 'compensation' for donating eggs to toher women for fertility treatment. We believe that this creates financial incentives for women to take the significant risks involved in the hormonal treatments that are part of IVF. In other countries the result is an exploitative egg trade and that these risks fall upon poor women. Payment for eggs also violates the bioethical principle that parts of the human body should not be sold for commercial gain.
